Digitalization is becoming more and more important in today’s economic world. Global competition is more competitive than ever and digital transformation is accelerating this process every day. Existing business models are less and less meeting the expectations of consumers with 24/7 availability requirements. Especially in retail, the fight between online and offline retailers is intensifying into an unfair power show. The physical trade and its suppliers are forced to offer the comfort and convenience of the online business. The adaptation and expansion of existing business models is a first approach to connect the two worlds and make the fight of online against offline a multichannel shopping experience for consumers. However, this transformation not only affects the trading companies themselves, but also calls on the suppliers of digital technologies to implement this ambitious project. The aim of this thesis is to develop a procedure model that provides guidance for the expansion of existing business models and technology portfolios. The procedure model is tested at an exemplary electronics company and the findings are directly implemented into a revised version of the initially proposed procedure model. In order to further validate the aforementioned procedure model, experts from the retail branch will also be interviewed in order to gain further insights into its relevance.
