Due to the rising number of electrical loads and sources in a household, energy management in households gains importance. This thesis describes common technologies found in modern houses and shows an implementation of an energy management system for home automation. In the past, the electrical installation of a house consisted mainly of lights and sockets. Nowadays there might be energy storages, heating controls, photovoltaics and much more. These devices are available from various manufacturers and in various designs. The built-in controllers usually only offer limited, manufacturer-specific interfaces, which cannot be connected directly to each other. For the cooperation of the systems, a central control system needs to be installed. This controller should read out and visualize the data using the offered interfaces. Based on the data, the controller can also make decisions and pass them on to the systems. This thesis covers the common technologies found in a modern house, including smart home controllers, heating, photovoltaics and charging stations for electric vehicles. It describes their working principles as well as their implementation in the energy management system. As a result, an energy management is implemented in existing buildings, in this case in the energy and solution laboratory (EAS-LAB) at CAMPUS 02, as well as in a single-family house in East Tyrol. In both buildings, different power sources and consumers are to be linked with the help of the control system.
