- This master´s thesis documents the development of an intelligent multi-WAN router based on a single-board computer. The objective is to develop a home router capable of using multiple Internet connections in parallel while also providing central network services. The motivation lies in the more efficient use of available resources and in increasing both data throughput and reliability by combining different Internet connections. In the practical part, suitable hardware and software components are selected. A Banana Pi R4 is used as the hardware platform, on which load balancing across three Internet connections of different media types is initially configured using the OpenWrt operating system. To improve distribution quality, the system is later migrated to OpenMPTCProuter, which enables packet-level load distribution. The system is then extended with additional network features, including VLAN, VPN, DMZ, and NAS functionalities. By using OpenMPTCProuter, it is possible to aggregate the Internet connections with an efficiency exceeding 90%. Finally, the developed system is evaluated and compared with commercially available alternatives. The results show that although a custom solution requires a significant time investment, it allows precise tailoring to specific requirements. Moreover, the wide range of available interfaces makes it possible to combine different access technologies and enhance the home network with additional features without requiring major structural changes.
